Weddings can test even the person with nerves of steel. There are so many details to plan, figure out, and wrap up. It is truly a lot to put on one person and especially a person who doesn't have a background in planning weddings. Let's face it, you may have some general ideas about how you want your wedding to go and the overall look, but when it comes to getting involved in every little detail, the long checklist, and the different decisions you must make, you must start admitting that you may need a little help. So, this way of thinking has brought you to consider hiring a wedding planner. A wedding planner will bring a lot more to the table than you can ever imagine at the beginning. But you will need to find the one that is perfect for you and that fits with what you want to do. In order to do that, there are some questions that you will want to know the answers to before you hire anyone. We have listed out the questions you will want to make sure to ask any potential wedding planner.
The first thing you will want to do is to make a list of potential candidates to plan your wedding. These names can come from any number of sources. We suggest that you start with your inner circle of friends and family. Maybe someone you know was recently at a wedding that was very well planned and executed. Find out if they used a wedding planner. You can do some searching online for wedding planners in the Denver area. If any particular planners jump out at you, add them to your list. At some point, you will want to setup some in person interviews with the names on your list. When you go to your meeting, make sure that you have a few pieces of information read to give them. You will want to know what your budget is for your wedding, how many invitees are there, your wedding date, and what your vision is for your wedding.
When you finally sit down and you meet your candidates face to face, there are a number of questions you will want to ask. Start by just being friendly and getting to know them a bit. Ask them how they got into the business of planning weddings. How many weddings have they done in total and how many have they done in the past 6 months? You want to make sure that you are hiring a very experienced planner, it takes a lot of time to learn all of the ins and outs of this kind of business because there are so many details to think about and problems to solve. Ask them if they are certified and if so, where did they get their certification. Where did they get their training to be a wedding planner? Do they do wedding planning full-time? Don't go with someone that only does it as a side gig.
Ask them if they have ever worked at the venue you have booked. This can be a real advantage. Find out if you have to only hire vendors they have on their preferred list or can you hire others. And if you have to hire their preferred vendors, will you be able to get a discount because of their association? You also want to make sure that the planner you hire will handle all of the vendor contracts and will work with the vendors on all of your wedding details. What kind of planning will they do for you, logistical, design, or both? We suggest that you find someone who can do both for you because both involve a lot of work. Will they be at your wedding on the day to make sure everything goes well. This would be a real bonus.
Once you get all of your answers related to the actual planning, you will want to get down to the business side of things. How much is the planner going to cost you? If you feel like their price is not out of bounds and you are satisfied with the answers to all of your questions, ask them to provide you a contract that spells out everything they will do for you. Make sure you go over the contract in detail and if everything checks out, pay your deposit and enjoy the services of your wedding planner.
